The Beginnings: From the Drawing Board to the Computer
In 1983, several dedicated engineers in Bochum came together to establish an engineering firm, creating customized designs for clients in mechanical engineering. At that time, design work was still characterized by manual labor and time-consuming processes. Therefore, CAD systems were introduced as tools to support the design processes. This laid the foundation for TEDATA GmbH's later business model.
With a focus on CAD systems, the company began distributing these systems in Germany in collaboration with a British software manufacturer and an American computer producer. Customers had the option to purchase computers with pre-installed CAD applications. This successful CAD distribution lasted for almost two decades, initially focusing on North Rhine-Westphalia where the customer base grew to about 100. Parallel to this, TEDATA was active in the development of database systems, often created in long-term projects for corporate clients.
The Birth of MDESIGN: Software Innovation in Mechanical Engineering
By the end of the 1980s, TEDATA began to delve more into the development of its own software. At that time, many companies still used their own calculation solutions. TEDATA capitalized on the Microsoft operating system and its application on personal computers. The software solution MDESIGN was born.
MDESIGN offered a wide range of calculation solutions for mechanical engineering, setting it apart from specialized individual solutions. A crucial step in supporting software development was the collaboration with IT experts from Ukraine since the mid-1990s. With a focus on the software market and increasing demands for the quality and quantity of software, around the year 2000, other business fields and activities were progressively discontinued.
Growth and Diversification: The MDESIGN group
Since 2002, the practical experience of mechanical engineering engineers from DriveConcepts GmbH in Dresden has been supporting the professional expertise of the MDESIGN group in terms of design and calculation of machine elements.
The continuous growth of products around MDESIGN led to the foundation of the MDESIGN Vertriebsgesellschaft in Bochum in 2005. This subsidiary focused on the marketing of MDESIGN software solutions and contributed significantly to the company's success.
Today, the MDESIGN group - consisting of TEDATA GmbH, MDESIGN Vertriebs GmbH, and DriveConcepts GmbH - operates at various locations. It employs specialists for coding and programming, a sales team for the sale of software and services, and experts for calculation and simulation. With around 50 employees, the MDESIGN group has reached a leading position in the market and supplies its over 3,000 customer companies from mechanical engineering and the automotive industry with digital tools and technical knowledge from current standards and guidelines.

The history of TEDATA and MDESIGN is marked by continuous innovation and the pursuit of the highest quality. The use of IT standards in programming and graphic user interfaces is a benchmark for the company's activities. In addition, new developments such as cloud applications or support by AI assistants are incorporated to offer modern, future-oriented, and sustainable solutions.
