The interface between MDESIGN and the ANSYS FAST+MORE plug-in for calculating fasteners is now available. This makes it possible to efficiently analyze designs—often involving hundreds of screws—using FEM and to perform a detailed verification in accordance with VDI 2230 or Eurocode 3 in MDESIGN .

FAST+MORE is an ANSYS extension developed by7tech GmbHthat can be installed quickly and easily via the ACT console. It is fully integrated into the ANSYS interface and therefore requires no additional training; the workflow is perfectly tailored to large models. FAST+MORE automatically identifies the correct bolt dimensions based on the existing holes and, depending on the user’s preference, represents the bolts as either Model Class I (direct coupling of holes without a bolt model), Model Class II (bolt as a beam model), or Model Class III (bolt as a solid model). Screw preload and tightening torque—including various tightening methods—are provided from a database.

FAST+MORE can display the results both graphically on the model and in tables. This makes it easy to quickly identify the bolt with the lowest safety factor. In addition, a detailed report containing all input and output values can be displayed for any bolt.

With a single mouse click, the bolt analysis results are exported to MDESIGN . This often eliminates the need for the time-consuming and error-prone manual transfer of internal forces and bolt data.
